Alexi glass and print on paper
In this piece, my aim is to show the contrast between the use of Snapchat as new media and the presence of tradition. The repetition of iphones creates a simple Sadu weaving pattern, and the images in those iPhones are screenshots taken from my Snapchat social media network; friends and family's accounts. Those images represent traditional food, clothing or tradition as a practice like noon, yalwah, dazza, etc. Through the use of social networks and social media, traditions in Kuwait are in constant change and transformation. I believe that culture and tradition are represented strongly nowadays are through social media, and for me personally as an artist living abroad, Snapchat is the way I connect daily to Kuwait and it’s culture.
