The installation is a transformation and expansion of different elements from the contemporary dowry chest in the Middle East. The piece consists of multiple elements, which join together to create an illusion of an oversized chest of drawers which cannot be pulled out. This flatness is a critique of the current shift of attention away from quality to the exaggeration of quantity where more becomes more. It also questions what remains constantly present in the gift even when it transforms and changes. One of the elements that remain present in the gift is the prayer rug, as it resembles the origin of the dowry concept to persevere women’s dignity and independence. The laser cut text is a prayer for the bride and groom which translates to : God blesses them and joins them in prosperity. It is commonly written inside or outside the chest and takes different forms. The two-dimensionality of the object is an indication of the importance of display of the ritual.
